University of Chicago Institutional Review Board (6 months)

Exposure to the University's Institutional Review Board (IRB) helps trainees gain appreciation for the governmental guidelines monitoring the use of humans in research and related ethical concerns. Trainees, under supervision of an IRB member, will prepare a review and present at least one new protocol each month.

Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee (6 months)

Participation with the Medical Center’s Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee helps trainees gain experience in hospital formulary committee decision-making, drug utilization audits and adverse event reporting. As part of the service commitment each trainee prepares and presents a report to the full Committee on a new drug, new device, or new policy. The official P&T Committee vote on the proposal is based upon the trainee’s formal presentation.
